THERMAL

The theme of energy consumption of buildings is the subject of continuous research and/or studies that have as their focus a substantial reduction of it. If we think that at European level, 40% of energy is used by buildings - more than in the transport sector (32%) and in the industrial sector (28%) - we understand how the economic and protection needs of environment converge fatally towards a single and indispensable objective: energy saving.

Specifically for buildings, considering the various types of consumption, the charges related to winter heating and summer conditioning are higher.

Regarding the energy efficiency, the legislative activity of the European Union began with the Directive 2002/91/CE “Energy performance of buldings” also called EPBD (Energy Performance Buildings Directive) subsequently updated with the Directive 31/2010/UE (also called EPBD2) and the EU Regulation n.244/2012.

Last act of the Union on buildings energy efficiency is the recent EU Directive n.2018/844 of 30 May 2018 (entered into force on 9 July 2018) amending the aforementioned Directive 31/2010 / EU.

Published on 19 June in the Official Journal of the European Union L 156, the EU Directive n.2018 / 844 will have to be implemented by the EU Member States by 10 March 2020 in order to allow the achievement of new European reduction targets of greenhouse gas emissions (-40% by 2030) and development of a sustainable, competitive, safe and decarbonised energy system (by 2050). Among the major innovations introduced will have the obligation to improve the energy performance of new and existing buildings.
